Who is your King? I hope His name is Jesus. He is a King like no other. He doesn’t just rule one Nation, or one people. He rules all kingdoms and all peoples. He rules all the earth, the heavens, and everything under the earth. Phil 2:9 “Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name:” There is no one, and nothing, that can hide from Him. Psalm 139:7-12 “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.” Though sometimes it feels like it, there is nothing that happens, that He is not aware of. If He doesn’t allow it, it cannot happen. We do not always understand why He allows certain things to happen. We don’t always like what He allows, but we have to remember a very important fact, His ways aren’t our ways. Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord, For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts”.
Jesus does not reign like any other king. He does not rule with an iron fist. He is not cruel, he is not unjust, He is not selfish. He does not kill or imprison to make sure His kingdom is impregnable. In fact, instead, He died to open up His kingdom to everyone. Your title, your position, your wealth, your marital status, your abilities, none of that matters to Him. He wants you to come as you are, broken and in need of mercy, a sinner in need of a Savior. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12) “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Rom. 10:13) Repentance and faith must both be part of this word, “Come”. The person who comes to Jesus needs grace, needs forgiveness, comes to repent of their sins, and desires a new heart and a new life. His promise to us is that if we do come to Him, he will never turn us away. John 6:37 “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”
He is the only King who will always fight for us, and who always does what is best for us. Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose“. This doesn’t mean our lives will be without difficulty, but it does mean we are never alone. 2 Corinthians 1:5 “For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.”
Another glorious truth about Jesus’ kingdom is that His kingdom will have no end. Other kings and kingdoms come and go. They are conquered, they are overthrown, they die, but He and His kingdom will last forever. Luke 1:33 “And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.”
This is surely the only King worthy of all our worship and praise. Revelation 5:13 “Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” Psalm 42:11 “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God”. He is reliable. He is truth. He is pure. He is sure. He is our firm foundation. He is the rock on which we stand. He is righteous. He is just. He is all powerful. He has no beginning and no end. He is our hope, our joy and our peace. He is worthy!
